Over the hill, I wandered on home Where I could lay my head Golden tones on fields that flew by Slivers of afternoon light Oh, how sweet this old valley daydreams There he watched from his purple plum tree In this place he won’t bare his teeth He’s resting now up in his tree Way above fears Oh, how sweet this old valley daydreams There he watched from his purple plum tree In this place he won’t bare his teeth He’s resting now up in his tree Way above fears

Under the lighter hues I found the darker shades Each winter she proceeds To harden up that which bleeds Scrape it off, shake it off, that’s the way Put on your records and paint Noseying people with their ears erect for damage SKRD Verse: Portraits of poor traits, forces to forsake, forest of orchids orchestrating my (no wait), Portraits of poor traits, opaque, transparency parents entranced as far as I can see, papi seed planted ain’t falling far from the family tree, extending olive branches for turning over new leafs, the good in me/who could but she, allow forbidden fruit to damage roots intrusively, how it usually ends, usually stems from fearing the loneliest deaths, blood on the leaves to water instead, longing for answers, yet no matter how strong the branch is, it was in mother nature to take the palm for granted, granted your inner fears interfered and it’s weird, I should’ve seen right through you just to be in the clear, it appears, the disconnect effect is disconcerting, left pushing daisy up, to kill a mocking burden Layers, the layers Chipping at the skin This old house, this old love Painting over it

about

Originally released in 2015, Maralisa's Sugarbird EP is her first solo project. The release documents her upbringing and pays tribute to the vibrancy of her mother's artwork, whose influence swallowed her up and gave her a musical voice. It is also an experimentation of genre and vocal composition, featuring many friends and collaborators from her time spent in New York. The Sugarbird is a native species to South Africa.
